A DOG that was involved in fatal sheep worrying in rural parts of Dorset has been rehomed.

Police launched an investigation over the situation which had led to people trying to shoot the dog involved.

As reported, the owner of the dog was taken to court over the incidents in the Bedchester area of North Dorset.

Sara Jenkins, 68 and of Penn Hill, Bedchester, pleaded guilty to two counts of being the owner of a dog that worried livestock.

She was ordered to pay £2,773 compensation by magistrates sitting in Poole after 12 sheep died across the two incidents.

A spokesperson for North Dorset Police said: "The incidents had a significant impact on the local community, with persons actively looking to take matters into their own hands and shoot the dog involved.

"Officers worked with the family and an animal rescue centre and facilitated the dog being rehomed with an appropriate responsible owner in another part of the country, away from any livestock."
