THE operators of Bournemouth’s Cameo nightclub have revealed they hope to form part of the huge new development planned for their current site.
REKOM UK operates Cameo & Myu and is one of a number of businesses which will be affected by developer Richard Carr’s plans for the Glen Fern House site.
The site, with frontages on Glen Fern Road and Fir Vale Road in Bournemouth town centre, is currently home to Cameo & Myu, the Norwegian Wood Cafe, Oasis Fun and a multi-storey car park.
But Mr Carr, the well-known Chief Executive of developer Fortitudo, has revealed ambitious plans to demolish the current building to make way for what he describes as “ground-breaking” facilities.
A Cameo spokeswoman told the Daily Echo: “REKOM UK, which operates Cameo & Myu, has confirmed they have been in discussions with the developer and are looking forward to being part of the new scheme.”
A spokesman for Norwegian Wood said they are uncertain about what will happen but said they remain open for business for the foreseeable future.
Plans for the new development are in their early stages but it is believed to include a nightclub, ten-pin bowling venue, bars, restaurants and a cinema.
There will also be a 120-bedroom hotel, 350 apartments available to rent and 250 apartments for sale.
Norwegian Wood is one of the oldest cafes in Bournemouth and has been on its current site in Glen Fern Road since the 1960s.
It has been a firm favourite with residents, students and clubgoers who regularly arrange to meet their friends for breakfast there following a night out.
Oasis Fun was officially opened in 2016 by the then Cherries manager Eddie Howe. The leisure development was created by builder and former AFC Bournemouth chairman Norman Hayward.
Announcing his new plans Mr Carr said: “We’re keen to try and bring back something that is much, much better and will make Bournemouth a great place to live.
“That building is not particularly attractive and the time has come for something to happen. The offices above Cameo have not been occupied for 30 years.
“This falls in with the regeneration of Bournemouth, and these facilities will be ground-breaking. There will be great new amenities for people.”
The Daily Echo has attempted to contact Norman Hayward for a comment.
