BOURNEMOUTH In Bloom has launched its annual Summer Gardens Competition for 2021 and to celebrate, we are taking a look at previous competition entries.
Today, we are peeking into six gardens who have previously entered into the popular competition.
First up is Margaret Dudden’s 'Thank You NHS' front garden from 2020.
With help from her two enthusiastic daughters and granddaughters, Margaret, of Ravine Road Bournemouth, showed appreciation for the healthcare service last year.
We are also having a look at Alan Wilson’s back garden from 2020 and Mary Jarvis’s front garden from 2019.
Last year, Michael House entered their environmentally friendly garden into the competition.
Hotel Miramar entered a summer garden display in 2019, while a summer box display was entered into the competition in 2020.
Entries for this year's Summer Gardens Competition will be done via photographic entry.
Entrants need to take some clear photos of their garden or a public space nearby, print it off and fill in an entry form and enter, either by email or by post.
The closing date is August 28 and one photograph is required for each category entered.
There are classes for both private gardens and commercial premises, as well as special categories for trees, environmentally friendly spaces and sensory gardens.
This competition is open to Bournemouth residents and workers as well as BIB members and friends.
BIB Chairman, Chris Colledge said: "We have all been restricted by the lockdowns and Covid regulations but now can begin to emerge into what is, a somewhat uncertain year.
"Bournemouth In Bloom aims to encourage wellbeing by enhancing the look of our town as well as inspiring people to enjoy gardening.
"Growing plants indoors or outside can be a joy and is proven to be good for our mental and physical health. If you don’t have a garden of your own, you can enter your local park or even a tree that you feel deserves an award."
There are no prizes or entry fees for this competition, though all entries will receive a certificate.

Show off your glorious Dorset garden
We'd love you to send up photographs of your garden - anything from a window box to an allotment, telling us who you are and what area/town you live in for our 'Over the Garden Fence' feature.
