A supermoon happens when a full moon occurs at the same time - or close to the time - that the moon reaches its closest point to the Earth.
This point is called perigee.

During a supermoon, the moon appears around 14% bigger and 30% brighter.
There was also a lunar eclipse but unfortunately this was not visible from the UK.

May’s full moon is called the flower moon because of the time of year when flowers start to bloom.
However, because this month’s has occurred at the same time as the lunar eclipse when the earth is between the full moon and the sun, it has also been dubbed the super flower blood moon.
