A CORONER has warned how “extremely dangerous” coastal cliffs can be following the death of a mum who fell at a Dorset beach.
Assistant coroner for Dorset Brendan Allen said it is “imperative” that people use the pathways provided to get down to the seafront.
The message from Mr Allen came during the opening of the inquest into the death of Tahira Jabeen.
Ms Jabeen, 46 and of Birmingham, was pronounced dead at Man O’ War beach after falling from the cliff on Monday, June 14.
A Dorset Coroner’s Court hearing at Bournemouth Town Hall on Thursday, June 17, was told emergency services had been called to the seaside location at Durdle Door following reports of a witnessed fall from the cliff-side.
Giving evidence at the short hearing, coroner’s officer Phillipa Morgan said: “A female, now known to be Tahira Jabeen, was confirmed deceased at the scene.
“Police have confirmed the matter is non-suspicious and continue their enquiries on behalf of Her Majesty’s Coroner.”
A post-mortem examination on June 16 provided a provisional medical cause of death as bilateral haemopneumothorax due to multiple rib fractures.
Before adjourning the inquest for a review hearing on November 3, Mr Allen said it was important to provide a warning despite the circumstances of Ms Jabeen’s death still being under investigation.
“The cliffs around Dorset are potentially extremely dangerous and to most popular beaches there are pathways that members of the public can take to access the beach,” said Mr Allen.
“It is imperative members of the public use those pathways to access the beach rather than trying to find an alternative way to get to the beach because of the potential dangers involved.
“I make that comment making no prejudgement regarding the inquest in relation to the death of Tahira Jabeen.
“It seems from the information available to me that it is an important warning to give, particularly as we are in the summer months and approaching the summer holidays.”
As reported, mother-of-five Ms Jabeen has been described as a “wonderful lady with a heart of gold”.
Friends and colleagues of the retail assistant have set up a fundraiser for her daughters following her death.
More than £4,000 has been donated on the JustGiving page.
