It made my day on Thursday morning (June 24) to hear BBC weather presenter, Louise Lear (I think it was her) say “We’ll be back in half an hour” without finding it necessary to add the word “time” to her statement.
Her colleagues at the BBC including the Corporation’s top presenters, Charlie Stayt, Naga Munchetty, Louise Minchen et al, who seem unable to refrain from including the redundant word “time” to sentences such as “A few minutes’ time” or “Fifteen minutes’ time” – to cite but two examples of their annoying tautology!
Call me pedantic if you will, but it has become patently obvious in recent years that a little more pedantry from those responsible for teaching children English would not go amiss.
