ANOTHER Poole resident has expressed anger at the “shocking” cemetery conditions in the area.
Chris Corbin visited his parents’ gravesite in Branksome cemetery on Father’s Day but was left feeling “disgusted” by the state of the grounds.
He said: “My parents are buried under a tree which used to be well kept and maintained. Now, the tree has been left so long that the branches have overgrown and touch the ground, leaving my parents’ headstones and at least five others covered and almost completely inaccessible.
“The grass is never cut and it’s at least a foot high. When you try and tackle your way through it your feet sink into the ground and get soaked.
“It’s a shocking situation. I can understand the course of nature but surely the cemetery needs basic maintaining. It just seems to me that nobody is doing anything at all. It’s all about respect for me and it’s becoming clear that none of that is being shown to our loved ones.”
Last year, Mr Corbin complained to the Daily Echo and the council about the same issue and says that one year later the situation remains unchanged.
This comes just days after a Poole woman spoke of an “upsetting” visit to her husband’s overgrown resting place in Poole Crematorium.
Mr Corbin said: “I did read that article and that’s what urged me to speak out again. I really related to it as I’m sure many others have. They’ve just stopped doing basic things, cutting grass and trimming branches. That’s all it is, we’re not asking for much.”
The cemetery and its grounds are owned and operated by BCP Council.
The Daily Echo have approached BCP Council for a comment.
