WATCH out for bikes this Sunday, July 4, as cyclists take on the 33rd Macmillan Dorset Bike Ride.
The annual event was postponed last year due to the pandemic but now the fundraiser for Macmillan Cancer Support is back.
Ride Organiser Peter Smith-Nicholls said “We are so pleased all our sponsors and supporters have carried forward their commitments from last year, this will mean all the money raised by the cyclists is guaranteed to go where it is needed most to help people living with cancer."
Cyclists will leave Corfe Mullen Recreation Ground between 8am and 10am and head towards Wimborne, and then return throughout the day via Lytchett Matravers.
The Dorset Bike Ride was started in 1989 by Peter Smith-Nicholls and the annual fundraiser now attracts in the region of 600 cyclists.
It takes place every year on the first Sunday of July and in 2012 the £1 million milestone was reached.
Motorists are asked to be particularly vigilant as cyclists cross the main roads especially at Red Post and the A350 at Lytchett Matravers.
There are still places left in this year’s ride, so it is not too late to sign up on the day.
Cyclists should visit the website at www.macmillanbikeride.co.uk for the start times of the four different distances of 100, 63, 48, and 38 miles.
This year the event is sponsored by Sunseeker International and Bournemouth-based bike store Primera Sport. The Hendy Group will be providing all support cars and sponsor the cycling jersey, Coles Miller also sponsor the cycling jersey and are entering a team of cyclists.
Refreshments will be supported by Iracroft Blandford, Rubicon and Tesco.
