PART of the A31 will be closed overnight for 11 weeks while Highways England installs a 50mph limit and road restrictions.

A public notice confirmed the closure would come into place at the end of July between Palmersford Roundabout and Canford Bottom Roundabout.

The notice said: “Notice is hereby given that Highways England intends to make an order on the A31 Trunk Road in the county of Dorset, under section 14(1)(a) of the road traffic regulation act 1984 because works are proposed to be executed on the road.

“The effect of the order would be to authorise the overnight closure of both carriageways of the A31 between Palmersford Roundabout and Canford Bottom Roundabout, all slip roads leading to and from this length and all side roads at junction with this length.

“[Order would] impose a 24-hour 50mph speed limit on the eastbound carriageway of the A31 between a point 110 metres west of Ameysford Roundabout and a point 50 metres east of Palmersford Roundabout and the westbound carriageway of the A31 between 130 metres west of Palmersford Roundabout and 760 metres east of Ameysford Roundabout.

“[Order would] impose a 3.25 metre width restriction in lane one and a 2.75 metres width restriction in lane two on both carriageways of the A31 between Palmersford Roundabout and Canford Bottom Roundabout.

“It is expected that the work would last for 11 weeks starting on Monday August 2. The overnight closures would take place between 9pm and 6am.

“The order would come into force on July 31 and have a maximum duration of eighteen months, ceasing when the works are complete.

“Traffic affected by the closure would be diverted using the A347, B3072, Cobham Road, Wimborne Road East and Wimborne Road West.

“The temporary closures, speed limit, width restrictions and diversion routes would be clearly indicated by traffic signs when they are in operation during the works period.”
