A DUSTBIN lorry was severely damaged after catching fire in Barton on Sea this morning leaving the road shut.
Crews from Hampshire’s New Milton attended the incident in Southern Lane, along with one crew from the Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service to extinguish the New Forest District Council refuse vehicle.
Hampshire and the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Services (HIWFRS) confirmed that one hose reel and one jet was used to extinguish the fire, having received a report of the incident at 10.23am.

Environment Agency pads were used to prevent contaminated water run-off entering the drainage system.
The authority also said that the Highways Agency were required to attend to road damage before the crews left the scene at 12.29pm.

New Forest Council reported via social media all the crew as safe and another vehicle was deployed to complete refuse collections as planned.
They have also urged people to avoid the area due to the road closure.
