A PLAY area was closed amid reports of anti-social behaviour at a recreation ground in Poole.
Police confirmed they are investigating reports of anti-social driving, criminal damage, theft and assault at Whitecliff Recreation Ground over the weekend and into Monday, July 26.
This came after the force received a report of an unauthorised traveller encampment at the site in Sandbanks Road on Saturday afternoon.
Residents have reported various issues, including litter at the recreation ground and being verbally abused.
On Monday, BCP Council had to close a play area due to safety concerns.
Reports on social media, to which the local authority responded, said human faeces had been found.
A Dorset Police spokesman said: "We received a report of an unauthorised traveller encampment at around 1.15pm on Saturday, July 24, at the Whitecliff Recreation Ground in Sandbanks Road in Poole.
"We received further reports relating to anti-social behaviour in the area over the weekend and into Monday, July 26, including antis-social driving, criminal damage, theft and assault.
"Officers have been carrying out regular patrols in the area and have been liaising with those present as well as the local authority.
"We take the concerns of local residents very seriously. We have been working with our partners to monitor the situation and will be taking appropriate further action if required."
In a statement, BCP Council said it is aware of the unauthorised Encampment at Whitecliff Recreation Ground consisting of seven living units and associated vehicles.
The relevant assessments have been undertaken and the site will be monitored regularly, said the spokesperson.
They added: "Unfortunately the play area at Whitecliff Recreation Ground has been temporarily closed due to safety concerns. The site will require a deep clean before it can reopen. This will be arranged as soon as possible."
