I READ with interest an article by Simon Ingram-Hawkes of South Leicestershire Litter Wombles who following a recent visit to sunny Bournemouth commented on our littered town.
Yes our town does have its fair share of litterers and this is exacerbated by the huge influx of summer visitors.
Saying that our litter problem is sadly reflected in every urban and rural part of the UK.
He does ask if Bournemouth have any of their own litter picking groups and I’m pleased to say we do have a few groups including the Dorset Devils.
We are 700+ signed up residents of Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole who love where we live and rather than just moan about the litter epidemic, we actually get out there and pick it up.
We do this to support our local community and environment, support our stretched local services, increase awareness and endeavour to bring back some pride where we live.
We are currently in the middle of a recruitment drive for more like minded residents to join our community group to help make our neighbourhoods and places we like to visit and enjoy that much less littered.
Do this on a solo basis or with your family/friends/neighbours, whenever time allows.
Visit our newly launched website DorsetDevils.org to see what we are all about and if this is something you would like to do on a regular basis, sign up today. You town needs your help.
Until such time as there is an huge improvement in litter behaviour, litter picking groups will still be needed throughout this country including in Bournemouth and South Leicestershire.
