A WOMAN who was rescued after being swept out to sea with her paddleboard has set up a fundraiser to thank the RNLI.

Becky Donovan, 32, an NHS 111 call handler from Ferndown, helped rescue two young girls who were quickly swept out to sea at Rockley beach on Friday, July 23.

During the rescue, Becky was swept out herself and was later assisted by crews from RNLI Poole Lifeboat Station.

Now, she wants to give something back.

Becky said: "I set up this fundraiser to raise money as a thank you to the RNLI. I also set it up after what happened with myself and what happened to Callum Baker-Osborne at the same place two days later.

"I want to raise as much as possible for the RNLI because of this."

Becky's initial target was £150, but since the fundraiser's inception at the end of July, she has managed to raise £470.

She said: "I didn't expect this when I started the fundraiser. I'm not really aiming for a specific amount, but I did include how much it costs to buy some RNLI equipment.

"A lifejacket costs £480, a thermal suit costs £230 and a helmet costs £260. I want to try and raise enough so I can reach that amount.

"Poole RNLI have posted the fundraiser on their Facebook page and loads of people have donated, including Callum's family.

"All the money raised is going to the Poole RNLI as they helped me and Callum's family. It's definitely important to do this. The RNLI volunteers are not paid, they just go out and do it."
