PLANS have been submitted for a three to four storey block of ten flats in Bournemouth.
Officials will meet to decide on the proposals which would see the demolition of the existing buildings at 9 Upper Norwich Road and replaced with the block of flats.
A design and access statement submitted on behalf of applicant Shore Holdings Ltd said: “The application seeks full planning permission to demolish the existing buildings on the site and erect a part three/part four storey building accommodating 10 apartments, nine of these will be two-bed bed and there will be one, one-bed flat.
“The scheme has been guided by the desire to achieve a sympathetic fit for purpose new build that balances the need to deliver new homes alongside the historic interest of the site.
“The use of the site for residential would be entirely appropriate for the site. The neighbouring buildings are all in a residential use, and therefore the use for residential would be more appropriate than the current use of the site as workshops.
“No parking spaces are proposed, however given its town centre location no parking is required to serve the development. 20 Secure cycle spaces are proposed in the lower ground floor.”
The statement said the building would be “L” shaped and the proposal would “not lead to unacceptable living conditions to the occupants on 15 Upper Norwich Road in terms of visual impact and light”.
It added: “The proposal is for a predominately brick building under a slate effect tiled roof. The design of the building will pick up design cues of the adjacent building known as The Works.
“The loss of the existing building would not cause harm to the conservation area, and the proposed replacement building by reason of its use, layout, scale, appearance and access would preserve the character and appearance of the conservation area.
“The applicant respectfully requests that this application be determined favourably.”
