ONCE again Bournemouth council take a sledge hammer to crack a nut, with the withdrawal of deckchairs for hire, thus costing council tax payers £200,000.

Which in these times we cannot afford.

All on an assumption they could possibly be used as weapons against someone.

So could any free standing sign, flag, parasol, windbreak etc.

So the best thing would be that you can only go to the beach if you have nothing on you that could possibly be used as a weapon.

So no combs, hairbrushes, handbags, umbrella (just in case knowing our summer it rains).

In fact we can only take our towels.

Of course no no eating on the beach cos those plastic knife and forks could do a lot of damage.

What I’m trying to point out is that there are a lot of things that could possibly be used as a weapon.

What the council is showing is they are scared of their own shadows.

Perhaps they should put their energies into ensuring that the promenade is safe for pedestrians, having to dodge skateboarders, electric scooters, and cyclists bombing along the promenade at well over the 10mph that the signs say.

In fact for everyone’s safety during summer months ie April to October all wheeled vehicles should be banned from the prom between the hours of 9am and 6pm then people who walk along the prom can do so without fear of being ridden into or having to jump out of the way of said vehicles (to promenade means to walk along).
