A THOUGHTFUL nine-year-old boy has completed his challenge of running 30km in six days, raising hundreds of pounds for Bournemouth Foodbank.

Isaac Auger from Charminster ran 5k everyday from August 9 to August 14 to support the food bank.

After seeing the difficulties faced by many in the pandemic and how important food banks have been for those in need, Isaac was keen to help.

He said: "I decided to raise some money for the food bank over the summer. I was going to cycle but I do that all the time so I thought about doing running instead.

"I wanted to fundraise for Bournemouth Foodbank as I thought it would benefit a lot of families.

"My grandpa is a volunteer for a food bank in Westbury and knows what it's like to be giving out meals.

"I think it is important that the food bank has the money to then give the families the food. Families will need food and the bank is on low supplies."

Despite finding the first couple of runs challenging, Isaac completed his last 5k run of his 30k total at Kings Park Athletic Stadium during the weekly Bournemouth parkrun.

He has raised £604.53 for Bournemouth Foodbank which includes Gift Aid.

Supportive parents Nick and Fiona Auger are "very proud" of Isaac's efforts.

Nick said: "We are aware that the food bank is under pressure, I have seen first-hand how stock has been affected, so Isaac wanted to help.

"It was totally Isaac’s own idea. We were very proud that he wanted to do something with his summer holiday that was beneficial to other people.

"He has nearly completed his adult parkrun milestone so we knew he could do it; it was just a question of when we could step up. We took it in turns to run with him.

"I thought he could raise £100, but he quickly raised lots of money. We are very, very proud."
