A MAN is fighting for his life following a crash on the A35 Upton Bypass in the early hours of this morning.
The man, aged in his 30s from Wimborne, has been taken to Southampton General Hospital with life-threatening injuries following the single vehicle crash.
His family has been made aware.
The crash involving a blue Chevrolet Aveo, of which the man was the only occupant, happened near the Bakers Arms Roundabout just after 4am on Saturday.
Officers attended, along with the fire and ambulance services.
Road closures were put in place as the emergency services responded to the incident and an investigation of the collision scene was carried out.
Police are now appealing for witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage to contact them.
Sergeant Rhys Griffiths, of the traffic unit, said: “We are carrying out an investigation to establish the circumstances of this collision and I am appealing to any witnesses who have not already spoken to police to please come forward.
“From our enquiries, we understand the vehicle involved – which has distinctive stripes on the roof and sides – travelled from the Wallisdown area to the Upton bypass and I am keen to hear from anyone who may have witnessed this vehicle, or captured it on dashcam footage, prior to the collision.
“Finally, I would like to thank members of the public for their patience and understanding during the road closures. As ever, these were absolutely necessary to allow the emergency services to respond and for a detailed examination of the scene.”
