THE Run Bournemouth festival is just days away and participants are getting set to put their best foot forward in a packed weekend of events.
Ahead of the two-day running meet, details have been confirmed of the road closures that will be in place to accommodate the races.
While the town will be without a full marathon event, having been axed after 2019’s festival, there are a variety of distances being completed over the weekend.
The half marathon, taking place from 10am on Sunday, follows the old full marathon route, with runners sampling both piers along the coast. The event starts at Hengistbury Head and finishes in the Lower Gardens.
The only other event on Sunday is the Supersonic 10k on a flat course from 9am.
Saturday features five races, with options for all the family.
Runners aged three to six, accompanied by an adult, can take part in the Kids’ Kilometre at 12.30pm.
This is followed by the Junior 1.5k at 1.30pm for six to eight year olds and the Junior 2k at 2.30pm for nine to 12 year olds.
The afternoon is completed with the Supersonic 5k for runners aged 11 and over.
And do not forget the popular Supernova 5k dusk run. The seafront is bathed in light for this event, which sets off at 7pm and is open to all ages.
At the time of going to print there was space to enter all events apart from the half marathon.
Details of road closures in place to facilitate the festival have been published by BCP Council.
From Sunday morning at either 5am or 6am until 3pm at the latest, closures are in force in Boscombe Cliff Drive and its link road to Byron Road, Boscombe Cliff Road to the junction with Michelgrove Road, Broadway, Bryon Road, Dalmeny Road, East Overcliff Drive, Manor Road, Southbourne Coast Road, Southbourne Overcliff Drive and Undercliff Drive.
A full closure at gates on Broadway to Hengistbury Head will be in place from 5pm on Saturday until 12pm on Sunday. Sea Road will be closed between Undercliff Road to roundabout from 7pm on Saturday until 2pm Sunday.
Link roads from Bath Road to the promenade will be closed to traffic from 12pm on Friday to 6pm on Monday.
