MORE than 7,000 people have signed up for this year’s Run Bournemouth event, with the half marathon selling out for the first time ever.

The event takes place over the weekend, with participants able to sign up for a half marathon, a 10k, 5k, 2k, 1.5k and kilometre race, the last three available to children.

And organisers behind the event said they were “so excited” so bring it back after the Covid pandemic but a halt to it last year.

A spokesperson said: “We have around 7,500 participants signed up to take part in Run Bournemouth at the weekend, with our half marathon event selling out this year for the first time ever.

“We're so excited to be bringing the event back to Bournemouth this year after what's been a tough 18 months for everyone, particularly those involved in the events industry.

“Over the past few months, we have been working closely with local authorities and emergency service partners to ensure the safe delivery of the event, this includes measures such as hand sanitising facilities throughout the event, and additional space in the start and finish areas.

“As ever, our priority remains the safety of our participants, and that of our event team and delivery partners.

“We can't wait to see everyone back enjoying themselves at Run Bournemouth.”

The half marathon, which takes place on Sunday, follows the old marathon route, as runners will pass both piers. It starts at Hengistbury Head and edns in the Lower Gardens.

Saturday features five races, with options for all the family.

Runners aged three to six, accompanied by an adult, can take part in the Kids’ Kilometre at 12.30pm.

This is followed by the Junior 1.5k at 1.30pm for six to eight year olds and the Junior 2k at 2.30pm for nine to 12 year olds.

The afternoon is completed with the Supersonic 5k for runners aged 11 and over.

And do not forget the popular Supernova 5k dusk run. The seafront is bathed in light for this event, which sets off at 7pm and is open to all ages.
