A LARGE police presence and cordon is in place in Lymington town centre this morning.
Officers have blocked off an alleyway which leads to the Royal British Legion off High Street.
A Hampshire Constabulary scientific services department screen has been placed at the front of the alley.
The area of pavement outside Barclays is also taped off.
There is also police activity in a walkway between the bank and The Black Butter Eatery.
Residents have reported a large emergency service response in the early hours, with a helicopter heard circling overhead.
At around 8.30am, there were five officers in uniform in and around the cordon, with several marked and unmarked police vehicles parked in High Street.
The town's Saturday market is still on, but stalls normally in the immediate vicinity have not been able to use their usual pitches.
The Daily Echo has contacted Hampshire Constabulary for comment.
