A MURDER investigation has been launched by police after a fatal stabbing in a town centre.
Emergency services rushed to High Street, Lymington, shortly before midnight over reports of an assault outside the Royal British Legion following a verbal dispute.
On arrival, police officers found three people, two men and a woman, with stab wounds.
A 23-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.
Another 23-year-old man sustained serious injuries. He is in a critical condition and currently being treated at Southampton General Hospital.
A 23-year-old woman received superficial wounds to her chest and is currently being treated at Southampton General Hospital. Her injuries are not life-threatening.
As part of Hampshire Constabulary's enquiries, four people have been arrested on suspicion of murder. They are:
- A 29-year-old man from Lymington
- A 20-year-old man from Lymington
- An 18-year-old man from Lymington
- A 14-year-old boy from Lymington
They all remain in custody at this time.
DCI Dave Storey, leading the investigation, said: “This is a serious incident, and our thoughts remain with the family of the young man who was killed.
“We believe this incident occurred following a verbal dispute at The Royal British Legion, and we have arrested four people as part of our enquiries.
“Please be reassured that officers remain on scene and there will be increased patrols in the area. If you have any concerns, or any information about this incident, please do not hesitate to approach officers.
