FLORAL tributes have been placed at the scene of a fatal stabbing as police detectives continue their murder investigation.
Multiple bunches of flowers were left at the cordon in High Street, Lymington, following the killing of a man on Friday night.
As reported, emergency services were called to the scene shortly before midnight on October 22. This was after police received reports of an assault outside the social club.
On arrival, police found three people, two men and a woman, with stab wounds.
A 23-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.
Another 23-year-old man sustained serious injuries. He is in a critical condition and currently being treated at Southampton General Hospital.
A 23-year-old woman received superficial wounds to her chest and is currently being treated at Southampton General Hospital. Her injuries are not life-threatening.
Police have arrested four people on suspicion of murder. They all remain in custody at this time. They are:
- A 29-year-old man from Lymington
- A 20-year-old man from Lymington
- An 18-year-old man from Lymington
- A 14-year-old boy from Lymington
The police cordon remained in High Street on Saturday night, with uniformed officers in atttendance.
A Hampshire Constabulary scientific services department screen is still in front of the alleyway that runs to the Royal british Legion to the side of Barclays bank.
In a statement on Saturday morning, DCI Dave Storey, leading the investigation, said: “This is a serious incident, and our thoughts remain with the family of the young man who was killed.
“We believe this incident occurred following a verbal dispute at The Royal British Legion, and we have arrested four people as part of our enquiries.
“Please be reassured that officers remain on scene and there will be increased patrols in the area. If you have any concerns, or any information about this incident, please do not hesitate to approach officers.
"Anyone who has information that may assist with our enquiries is asked to phone 101, quoting 44210425369."
Mayor of Lymington James Hoare said he was "deeeply saddened" by what had taken place.
"My thoughts are with the friends and family of those who have died and are injured in this terrible crime," said Cllr Hoare.
