DOG walkers have been warned of a harmful substance in the New Forest.

Palm oil has been washing up on the shore, which is waxy and dangerous to dogs if ingested.

The district council is monitoring the situation, but is urging pet owners to stay vigilant.

A spokesperson said: "If you’re walking your dog in the area, keep your dog on a lead and avoid walking on the beach if you spot any palm oil deposits.

"Our coastal team are carefully monitoring the beaches and removing any material found."

Walkers can report any sightings of palm oil by emailing customer.services@nfdc.gov.uk.
