A POPULAR Italian restaurant in Christchurch is to close its doors tomorrow after trading for a “memory filled” 47 years.
La Mamma in Bridge Street announced last month that it would close for the final time on Sunday, October 31.
The restaurant, which has been run by the Mirco family since opening in 1974, has been a staple on the palate of Christchurch and Bournemouth residents.
In a statement published to its followers online, La Mamma said: “It is with a heavy heart that we've made the difficult decision to close our doors permanently. La Mamma first began trading back in 1974 and over the last 47 years it has become a cherished part of the local community in Bournemouth.
“It has been a great pleasure for us to serve you all and we can't thank you all enough for the tremendous support you've shown us, especially during these recent trying times. But alas, all good things must come to an end.”
One customer commented: “If you have lived in Christchurch, La Mammas has been part of lots of people's lives, great party place and will be missed greatly. Thanks for some great memories.”
The decision to close was taken by owner John Mirco, who joined the restaurant soon after it was opened by his late father, as he retires after almost half a century of trading.
