RESIDENTS have been warned that overnight works on an A31 flyover may end up “keeping people awake”.

Overnight works are planned between 8pm and 6am from Monday, December 13 to Friday 17 when the flyover at Ringwood will be closed and traffic diverted via the slip roads.

These works are to enable temporary barrier installation as well as groundwork and drainage installation in advance of the contraflow being put in place in January 2022.

Planners have warned residents that “these essential works may generate noise through the night”.

Vehicles on the eastbound A31 will be taken off the road at the Ringwood exit to cross the roundabout, and re-join the A31 carriageway using the entry slip road.

For those travelling westbound, access to back onto the A31 towards Bournemouth is accessible by going straight across the roundabout below the flyover and drivers will still be able to turn right onto the A338 Salisbury Road towards Salisbury.

Ringwood Town Council’s A31 forum representative Cllr Philip Day said: “They’ve warned us that the work is likely to be very noisy so we may sadly see a week of works keeping people awake.

“However, it is an awful lot less disruptive that some of the other works as you can still access most parts of the A31 heading east and west.

“Despite this I would still say whenever there are works it’s a good idea to avoid the area. People in the community travelling from Bournemouth to Southampton for example won’t have a choice so I would recommend passing across Ringwood before 8pm if you can help it.”
