HUGELY appealing first solo outing from Dev Hynes, whose aural hijinks with his previous outfit ill-prepare his fan base for this country-tinged set of angsty acoustica. From chronicling the breakdown of a relationship in a mere 67 seconds, to unravelling the twisted workings of the male libido and video games in Midnight Surprise, Dev is unimpressed by convention.
Let The Bitches Die finds him getting in touch with his angry self, while Galaxy of the Lost boasts the vibey feel of Eels at their poppiest while mining the soul for yet more nuggets of misery and physical abomination (staple your eyelids, anyone?) Produced by Bright Eyes' Mike Mogis, the poppy semi-acoustic sound has flashes of everyone from Steely Dan and Fleetwood Mac to Nirvana and Beck yet sounds unlike anyone else.
