WAINWRIGHT'S like Marmite - you either love him or you don't get what he's about at all. When he's doing his own stuff, I love him (although I can't stand that smelly brown stuff), but it's hard to get my head round this.

It's a faithful two-CD recreation of Garland's 1961 show at the same venue, with special guest appearances by mum Kate McGarrigle, sister Martha and Judy's daughter, Lorna Luft.

Rufus's voice is, let's say, distinctive, and while it no doubt seemed like a good idea to pay homage to Garland, along with a 36-piece orchestra and powerhouse rhythm section, his interpretations add little to classics such as Get Happy and Zing Went the Strings of my Heart.

It sounds like a fun evening though, and might persuade people to go out and invest in the original (and still the best).
