A CHRISTMAS event has been cancelled after “many” stalls and entertainment backed out due to worries over the Omicron Covid variant.

Fordingbridge Events Group took the decision to cancel its Christmas Glow event, which was due to take place on Saturday, December 11, in the car park near Roundhill in Fordingbridge.

The Christmas Glow event was due to house several stalls with food and drink, family activities and addresses by Santa throughout.

Nicky Jenkins, Fordingbridge Events Group chair, said: “We are gutted about cancelling the event but in the current climate with the pandemic and updates about Omicron, many of the stalls and entertainment booked have had to pull out.

“We don’t want our first event back after such a long break to be a compromise and a big let-down, so it is with regret that we have taken this decision.”

Around Fordingbridge, retailers and other organisations are still holding events including a craft fayre at United Reformed Church, kids’ activities at the Created by You courtyard and a Star Wars themed event at the Town Hall by All The Cool Stuff.
