Dorset, My Dorset - Bonny Sartin, The Exchange, Sturminster Newton
BEST known as a founder member of veteran Dorset folk group The Yetties, Bonny Sartin proved a popular attraction when he appeared at newly opened Sturminster Newton venue The Exchange for a nostalgic look at life in the county in the not too distant past.
Bonny entertained a large audience with his self-penned rustic rhymes and songs, mixing tales of feasting on rabbit for breakfast, dinner and tea and exploding compost heaps with anecdotes from a childhood spent gathering berries or coach trips to Weymouth.
This was an evening of gentle entertainment as the audience shared their memories too - of a Dorset and a lifestyle that may soon be forgotten.
Bonny also revealed how some of the rhymes were created and had praise for The Exchange, telling the audience: "When I saw the site being built, I was a little worried what would happen. But I was shown around last year and I was amazed. It has some of the best acoustics I have heard - the town is very lucky."
Bonny returns with The Yetties for a concert on April 9.
