TELEVISION presenter and furniture restorer Jay Blades visited a Poole store to celebrate his collaboration with the owner.
Restored Retro in Poole held an exclusive preview of new Jay Blades pieces, alongside their own mid-century furniture.
Mr Blades is the presenter of BBC's The Repair Shop.
The store, owned by Steve Wyatt, was the first UK exclusive stockist of Mr Blades’ range of furniture known as Jay & Co.
At the event Mr Blades said: “Being down here today is a real joy for one, it’s a long journey but it’s worth it because you’ve got a lot of furniture in this beautiful shop.
“The shop is insanely beautiful, every piece in here, even the plants are a winner.
“Having my furniture in the store is a true honour because you always want your stuff to go to places where the people have considered the way that it should be looking and having your pieces next to pieces that I admire, is priceless. Everything in here I really like.
“When you work together it should be easy and Steve’s made it easy, he’s got the clientele, he’s got a beautiful looking shop and a prime location and you get people to see it because they can look in the windows and see the whole shop.
“Our shared vision is to stop landfill and restore some of this beautiful furniture, which was built to last before and now is just going from strength to strength because I think this is the future, reusing what we’ve already created or somebody else has created for us to enjoy, it’s timeless pieces”
Steve said: “Some of the furniture is 50 or 60 years old and when we restore it, it’s good to go for another 50 or 60 years, I believe we’ve saved hundreds if not thousands of pieces between us from going to landfill.
“Business has been very good sometimes we can’t keep up with it but it’s great I’m not complaining, we’ve had some really good customers, customers that keep coming back and they’ve supported us so thank you.
“What I’ve discovered in business over the last couple of years is, it’s the relationships that we have with people, keeping a good relationship and working with other traders who know what they want and being faithful to each other, committing to stuff to buy off them and nurturing those relationships. I’ve got people out looking for me now so I can spend more time restoring."
Steve opened his store in April and the pair are looking at a new collaboration together in the New Year.
