A FIREWORKS display will not be held on Bournemouth seafront on New Year’s Eve, the council has confirmed.

BCP Council said there are no fireworks planned for Friday evening, December 31.

It comes after members of the public contacted the Daily Echo to ask if a display would be going ahead.

In 2019, tourism officials had to quash rumours of a New Year’s Eve fireworks display after a fake Facebook page advertising an event was set up.

Thousands of people ‘liked’ the page, despite no information actually appearing on it.

The post caused confusion amongst residents, prompting BCP Council to issue a statement confirming no fireworks would be going ahead.

The council said the page had been set up by a “rogue and anonymous Facebook page”.

Fireworks are held near Bournemouth Pier over the summer every Friday night from the end of July to the beginning of September.

Displays also take place as part of the Bournemouth Air Festival.
