A MAN was threatened with an axe in an earlier hours robbery in Bournemouth after he tried to assist a woman who told him she was being chased.

The victim, a man aged in his 40s, was driving in Moorside Road, West Howe, at around 2.20am on Monday, January 3, when his attention was drawn to a woman in the road who appeared to be flagging him down for assistance.

He stopped the car and spoke to the woman, who reportedly said someone was chasing her and she got in the front passenger seat.

It was reported that a short distance down the road the victim stopped at the request of the woman, as he did so the passenger door was pulled open and a man reportedly threatened the victim with an axe as he demanded his phone and wallet.

The victim was able to drive away with the woman still in the car. It was reported that she got out a short distance later following a scuffle with the victim, who subsequently noticed his house keys were missing from the vehicle.

Dorset Police said following enquiries, a 36-year-old Cornwall man was arrested on suspicion of robbery and a 34-year-old woman, also from Cornwall was arrested on suspicion of attempted robbery. Both have been released on police bail as detectives carry out further enquiries.

Detectives are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward as they continue their investigation into the reported robbery.

Detective Constable Phillip Riggs, of Bournemouth CID, said: “We have launched a full investigation into this incident and I am appealing to any witnesses or anyone with information that might assist our enquiries to please come forward.”
