A HOST of events will take place this year across Dorset and the New Forest.

Over the past two years festivals, carnivals and celebrations have been cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

However, many will hopefully go ahead this year as things start returning to normal.

So, grab those diaries as here are some of the biggest events set to happen in 2022.

Bournemouth Air Festival

Bournemouth Echo: Bournemouth Air Festival Day Three. Red Arrows.

The 14th Bournemouth Air Festival will take to the skies between Thursday, September 1 and Sunday, September 4.

Last year saw the Red Arrows return for all four days of the spectacular event after a two-year gap.

Other displays that went ahead in 2021 included the RAF Typhoon, Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, Ultimate Warbird Flights, RAF Chinook, Super Pitts Muscle Plane and The Blades.

Earlier this week it was confirmed the Red Arrows will be appearing at this year's event across all four days.

Great Dorset Steam Fair

The Great Dorset Steam Fair has been entertaining thousands of people for decades and the popular festival returns from Thursday, August 25, until Monday, August 29.

This year's event will feature a Modern Classic Motorcycle Section for the first time in the event's history.

The fair usually features a World War One commemoration, stunt displays, historic and classic motor vehicles, food and drink stalls, a fairground and live music.

Tickets for the event and camping are on sale now.

Camp Bestival

Bournemouth Echo: Camp Bestival returns to Lulworth Castle in 2022

Popular family-friendly festival Camp Bestival will be bringing live music and entertainment for all ages to the grounds of Lulworth Castle between Thursday, July 28 to Sunday, July 31.

This year's event will take on a Desert Island Disco theme and will feature a brand new Guinness World Record attempt when more than 324 party goers will attempt the world’s largest disco dance.

Rag 'N' Bone man, Rudimental, Sister Sledge, Kool & The Gang and Razorlight are among the acts announced for 2022.

Run Bournemouth

Thousands of runners of all ages put their best foot forward for Run Bournemouth in October.

The event will once again feature races for children and adults with the kids kilometre, junior 1.5k, 2k and 5k events and Supernova 5K on Saturday, October 8, and the Supersonic 10k and half marathon held on Sunday, October 9.

Bournemouth 7s

Bournemouth Echo: 2021 Bournemouth 7s event

Sporting spectacular Bournemouth 7s will take place over the bank holiday weekend marking the Queen's Jubilee in early June.

Last year's event was moved to the August bank holiday weekend after it was pushed back due to coronavirus pandemic.

Tickets for this year's festival go on sale on Tuesday, February 1, and will feature rugby, netball, dodgeball and hockey.

Race for Life

The much-loved Race For Life events will return to Bournemouth and Poole this spring.

Poole's Race for Life will take place at Baiter Park on Saturday, May 14, and is open to people of all ages and abilities.  Adults and children can choose from 3k, 5k and 10k events.

There is also a chance to take part in Pretty Muddy, a mud-splattered obstacle course and there's a Pretty Muddy Kids option.

Meanwhile, Bournemouth Seafront will host the 5k and 10k on Sunday, June 12.

Bourne Free

Bournemouth Pride returns bigger and better than ever before. Organised by Bourne Free, Pride in the Park will see the celebrations return to Meyrick Park after a 17-year hiatus, on July 8 and July 9, 2022.

The annual event was previously held in Meyrick Park in 2005 before moving to the Triangle where 3,000 people joined in two-days of celebrations earlier this year.

Christchurch Food Festival

Bournemouth Echo: The 2021 Christchurch Food Festival draws massive crowds

Foodies can celebrate the Queen's Jubilee Weekend surrounded by tasty treats and drink when the Christchurch Food Festival takes place from Thursday, June 2 to Sunday, June 5.

The show didn't take place in 2020 but took place over the August bank holiday last year following a year's hiatus.

Swanage Carnival

The biggest event in Swanage's annual calendar is set to bring the party to the seaside town from Saturday, July 30, to Saturday, August 6. This year's theme is Once Upton a Time.

New Forest Show

Bournemouth Echo: The New Forest Show.

Three days celebrating agriculture, animals and of course, food, comes to the New Forest Showground on Tuesday, July 26, Wednesday, July 27 and Thursday, July 28.

The event had to be called off for the last two years running.

Sandfest

Bournemouth Echo:

Popular music festival Sandfest returns to Sandbanks beach on Sunday, July 10.

Last year’s Sandfest was due to take place in July but had to be postponed due to coronavirus restrictions, taking place in September instead.

Acts lined-up for the spectacular include Wes Nelson, Jax Jones, Karen Harding and Sweet Female Attitude.

HIGH TIDE Festival

New for this year, High Tide Festival will take place on Bournemouth beach on Friday, July 1, and Saturday, July 2, with purpose-built stages on the beach.

Clean Bandit will headline the first night line-up which will also feature Tinie (formerly Tinie Tempah), DJ Fresh, Sigala, DJ Yoda, Greg Wilson, Kosheen, JFB, Ibiza Symphonic Orchestra, Showhawk Duo, Kilmo (The Hush Club) and Tom Mayhem.

While Saturday will have showcase indie, rock and pop acts including Supergrass.
