THE man who was found dead at an address in Christchurch, sparking a murder investigation, has been named by police.

Following formal identification taking place and liaison with HM Coroner, detectives can now confirm that the man was 35-year-old Edward Reeve.

As reported, Dorset Police received a report at 7.53pm on Tuesday January 4 raising concern for the welfare of the occupant of 6 Heath Road. Officers attended the address and found the body of a man with serious injuries.

Following enquiries, a 16-year-old boy from Christchurch was arrested on suspicion of murder. He is still assisting detectives with their enquiries.

Detective Inspector Simon Huxter, of the Major Crime Investigation Team (MCIT), said: “We are continuing to support Edward’s family and keep them updated with our investigation, which remains ongoing.

“I am appealing to anyone who knew Edward to please come forward as they may have important information to assist our investigation.

“Our appeal also still stands for residents and motorists in the area of Heath Road to please check any CCTV systems or dashcam footage from Saturday 1 January to Tuesday 4 January 2022 and to report any suspicious activity they may have witnessed during this time period.

“Officers remain in the area carrying out enquiries and can be approached by members of the community with any information or concerns.”

Residents have described the victim as a “lovely lad” and “quiet” who “kept himself to himself”.

Various neighbours said he was a “very private” person who moved to Heath Road around two years ago.

One told the Echo: “I’m shocked. He was a lovely lad. It is deeply saddening and I’m just completely shocked by this. Awful.”

A couple who lived close to the house remembered him as a “talkative and friendly” individual who they had over for coffee “once or twice” soon after he moved onto the road.

The couple, who wished to remain anonymous, said they had exchanged Christmas cards with him when he first moved in.
