A HOTEL and development group has submitted revised proposals to extend Bournemouth town centre's Hampton by Hilton hotel.

The new plans have been lodged by THAT Group who say the scheme would enable them to provide more guest capacity in periods of high demand.

Last year BCP Council planners refused an application for a two-storey extension.

The new proposal seeks to address the concerns raised by the local authority's officers.

It requests consent for a single storey extension set back from the existing building line.

An additional 15 bedrooms including six interconnecting family rooms will be provided if the application is successful.

The Hampton by Hilton on Upper Terrace Road currently has 120 rooms and sits next to the landmark Hilton, also owned by THAT group.

Peter Tisdale, chief executive officer of THAT Group, said: "While the pandemic has been particularly hard on us and the hospitality sector, we’ve been fortunate in having our three hotels located in highly desirable, staycation locations, on the south coast.

"This has allowed us to claw back some of the trade lost while the country was in and out of lockdown."

But Mr Tisdale said there was still uncertainty in the sector and the wider economy.

He added: "We foresee a number of peaks and troughs ahead but nevertheless, if approved, the extension of the Hampton by Hilton hotel, Bournemouth will allow us to more adequately provide during periods of high demand.

"We also hope that our investment will provide some added confidence to the Bournemouth and south coast hospitality sector."
