POOLE planners look set to give Barclays the green light for their multi-million pound home tomorrow.
Asda has applied to build two state-of-the-art office buildings on West Quay Road, of which Barclays would move into the larger.
Council officers are recommending approval for the scheme, adjacent to the Asda supermarket, subject to a number of conditions.
Barclays is scaling down its operation in Poole and intends to move out of Barclays House and into the new building in 2010.
Planning officer Doug Evans said: "Barclays have been persuaded to retain nearly 1,000 people in Poole by the offer of high-quality accommodation.
"With the promise of further floorspace later, their decision is a significant boost for the local economy."
Barclays would move into phase one of the West Quay Road development, with 10,000 sq foot of office space spread over four floors and an impressive full-height glazed entrance.
The Barclays office block would enjoy uninterrupted views across Holes Bay and accommodate parking for 194 cars, as well as motorcycles and bikes.
Mr Evans said: "While neither the owners of the site nor the applicants, it is understood the proposals have been designed to meet specific operational requirements of Barclays."
Phase two would see the construction of a smaller block, with 5,000 sq foot of office space over five floors and parking for 48 cars.
Access to the sites would be through the entrance vehicles currently use for the Asda supermarket.
Asda says it aims to create a site acting as a gateway to an urban environment, linking the waterside environment with the heart of Poole.
The scheme has received the full backing of the council's strategic planning and transport departments, as well as the Environment Agency and the South West Regional Development Agency.
Issues raised by residents in objection to the plans include lack of parking and adequacy of pedestrian crossings across Holes Bay Road.
