AN ELDERLY man has surrendered his driving licence and had charges dropped by police in what they have called ‘the right outcome’.
The 88-year-old motorist from Corfe Castle was stopped by police back in November for driving with no insurance and an expired licence.
Following up on the man, a team from Dorset Police No Excuse visited his home to check on his welfare.
Over the Christmas period the police had spoken to his family who lived far away.
His family were concerned regarding the documents not being in order and other issues were identified.
A spokesperson for Dorset Police No Excuse said: “We were invited into his lovely house, where he lived alone, with a smile on his on face.

“During the conversation he told us he’s not driving again (and didn’t get the car out the compound) but was worried regarding the stop back in November regarding points and fines that had been on his mind.”
The man surrendered his licence to the police there and then, which they passed to the DVLA.
The police spokesperson continued: “Following this we have stopped any proceedings against the male in relation to driving with an expired licence and no insurance, which I hope you would agree is the right outcome.”
