A pedestrian was taken to hospital with serious injuries after a crash with a car last night.
Police were called to A351 Sandford Road near Wareham around 9pm on Tuesday night following reports of a collision between a car and a pedestrian.
The incident had taken place between the Organford Road junction and the junction with Woodlands Drive.
Police officers attended, along with the ambulance service.
A spokesperson said: "The pedestrian, a 19-year-old local man, was taken to Southampton Hospital for treatment to serious injuries.
"The driver of the car, a local man aged in his 20s, was arrested on suspicion of driving offences."
The road was reopened at around 5.20am this morning.
Police Constable Mike Burt, of the traffic unit, said: “We are continuing to make enquiries to establish the full circumstances of this collision. I would urge any witnesses who have not already spoken to police to please contact us.
“I would also ask anyone who was driving in the area around the relevant time who has dashcam fitted to please check their footage for anything that might assist our enquiries.
“Finally, I would like to thank members of the public for their patience and understanding while the road closures were in place. These were necessary to allow the emergency services to respond to the incident and for an examination of the scene to be safely conducted.”
