A FLOOR layer says he was reduced to tears after thieves broke into his father’s locked garage and stole up to £3,000 worth of tools.

Leighton Chivers is no stranger to being a victim of theft. Last year he had a work van stolen from the family driveway and, around six months later, has been subjected to another “horrible” theft.

The latest incident occurred overnight between Sunday, February 6, and Monday 7 at his father's property in Lincoln Road, Poole.

Thieves broke into a locked garage at the property and made off with a petrol disc cutter, two chainsaws, a hedge trimmer, a grass strimmer and a drill set – costing between £2,000-£3,000 overall.

Leighton told the Echo: “They’ve done us over quite badly. I wasn’t at home and woke up to a message saying the workshop had been broken into.

“It seems that they planned their route. They came through the neighbour’s garden, jumped over the wall, bust the lock and within two minutes they were in the garage throwing our tools into the garden.

“My dad is a landscaper and they’ve stolen from our businesses. I have to say it actually had me in tears right away and I’m not someone who responds to stuff like that. It’s just happened so much and the horrible thing is we can’t do anything about it.

"It’s just a horrible feeling.”

Leighton believes the theft may be linked to previous incidents in the Poole area and believes the group behind the crime are “not amateurs”.

He added: “The main thing now is to get these people locked away. I’m sick of it happening round my area. I think people need to get security cameras so we can get these people off the streets.”

A Dorset Police spokesperson said: “[We] received a report of a break-in to a garage at an address in Lincoln Road in Poole between the evening Sunday February 6 and around 7.30am on Monday February 7, 2022.

“It was reported that a number of Stihl power tools were stolen.

“Enquiries into the matter are ongoing, no arrests have been made.”
