A MUM has called for signs asking people to pick up their dog poo on a popular school route.
Hollie Webster is asking people to 'pick up their dog poo' as the children are treading in it on the way to and from school at St Mary’s in Oakdale.
She said: "Every day there are piles of poo along the path and I have been reporting this for six months.
"I send the council regular photos of the poo I find. The children end up going to school with poo on their shoes and at pick up they go home with it on their shoes.
"I’m fed up of people with dogs leaving the poo for children to walk in. It seems to be a huge issue around BCP and many people I speak to, often see it left around the area not just in Oakdale.
"People with dogs need a reminder that dog poo can make children go blind.
"My predicament is not being listened to by the council, I'm about six months into it so far.
"I would like signs put up saying “pick up your poo, we don’t want it on our shoe” but maybe written by a child. These signs would be beneficial to everyone that lives in BCP.
"I want to start with the path to my children’s school and then more places. Similar to the slow down signs that are along the roads."
Councillor Nicola Greene, portfolio holder for council priorities and delivery said: “We love the idea of the poster campaign involving school children and a good starting point would be to contact her local councillor.
“The vast majority of dog owners are responsible but there are a minority who refuse to pick up after their dogs.
“If you are a dog owner, you are required by law to clean up after your dog in public places. That includes roads, pavements, parks, car parks and all shared open spaces.
“If you fail to clean up after your dog, you are committing an offence and may be subject to enforcement action.
"We would ask people to report incidents like this, which can be done through our website (https://www.bcpcouncil.gov.uk/Roads-and-transport/Report-a-problem-on-a-road-or-pavement/Dog-waste.aspx) and ask that people give as much information about the incident and offenders as possible.”
