FORECASTERS say Dorset is likely to be hit by very strong winds of up to 90mph, which could cause disruption on Friday.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for wind which will be in place from midnight on Friday, February 18, until 9pm.

Weather enthusiast Dorset Snow said: "60mph gusts are now expected quite widely.

"Between 70mph-80mph is looking pretty likely between 10am and midday.

"There is a chance of 90mph for coastal areas."

Rain however, is less likely according to the forecaster: "There will not be much precipitation associated with the wind.

"There is a small chance of some wintry showers on the back edge of the system as cold air arrives during the afternoon."

The Met Office says Storm Eunice will bring a period of very strong winds that could cause significant disruption.

Here's what to expect on Friday, according to the Met Office:

There is a small chance that flying debris will result in a danger to life, with fallen trees, damage to buildings and homes, roofs blown off and power lines brought down.

There is a small chance that injuries and danger to life could occur from large waves and beach material being thrown onto sea fronts, coastal roads and properties.

Where damaging winds occur, there is a chance that long interruptions to power supplies and other services may occur.

There is a small chance that roads, bridges and railway lines could close, with long delays and cancellations to bus, train, ferry services and flights.
