OLYMPIC hero Tom Daley OBE cycled through a “sleepy” Dorset village as he continued his mammoth task for Comic Relief.
The gold medallist is on day two of his three day challenge to row, cycle, swim and run his way from the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in Stratford to his hometown of Plymouth.
And that route will take him through many parts of Dorset, starting with Alderholt shortly before 7.30am this morning, despite being scheduled to arrive at 8.30.
The diver and his following convoy of safety cars cycled from Fordingbridge into Alderholt and down Station Road.
There, with a grateful smile, Tom greeted the handful of residents who had made the effort to cheer him on.
One of those residents was Louise Croombs. She said: “It’s really exciting. I never thought we’d have someone like him come through the village.
“It’s a great challenge, he’s a successful diver and now a knitter as well.
“Why is he coming through such a sleepy, little village?”
Tom’s next stop was Cranborne, before moving onto Wimborne, Lower Waterstone, Dorchester, Winterborne Abbas and Bridport.
He is expecting to arrive in his home town of Plymouth at 4.30pm tomorrow.
Donations, which can be made at the Comic Relief website, will help communities across the world live free from poverty, violence and discrimination.
