A LONG section of the boundary wall in the car park at the Crown Hotel, Blandford is having to be rebuilt after it became unstable.
Owners, Hall and Woodhouse, say they took down most of the north west section of the 20m car park wall last year rather than risk a collapse. The wall forms the boundary between the Grade 2 listed hotel car park and properties and gardens to Luton Mews.
The company is now intending to rebuild the wall on a “like for like” basis with Dorset Council agreeing to a planning request to do so.
The wall was built of brick with brick pilasters at intervals with a brick capping, set on a flint and brick plinth.
The company hope to reuse as many bricks from the original structure as possible with additional reclaimed bricks to match. An inner block wall, which will not been visible, will be used behind the bricks to strengthen the structure.
Blandford town council had welcomed the application saying that it was pleased a “like for like” replacement was being proposed.
