A POPULAR bookshop in Poole will be closing its doors for good this weekend.

Waterstones is “regrettably” closing its Falkland Square store after reaching the end of its lease and will cease trading on Sunday, February 27.

The retailer has said it is actively looking for a new store location in Poole town centre.

Luke Taylor, Waterstones Retail Director: “It is with much regret that we close the doors to our popular bookshop in Poole and we would like to thank all our customers for their continued support.

“Poole is a place where we’d like to remain and, although we have yet to identify a suitable new location, we are confident that we will find a new home in the town.

“Until then, we hope to welcome our customers in our Bournemouth or Ringwood bookshops.”

Despite Waterstone's wanting to remain in the town, it is reported that the landlord has chosen to grant the new lease to Greggs.

A Greggs spokesperson said: “Greggs is always looking into new shop locations, while we are unable to confirm anything at the moment, we will be sure to share any information in due course.”

The lettings agent for the unit, Gerrard Matthews, previously told the Daily Echo that Greggs wanted “more space”.

“The unit was on the market - there was a to let board on the property.

“We agreed a deal and there was only a short lease on Waterstone's which was their decision so no doubt they’ll look for somewhere else to move to.”
