VOLUNTEERS are working flat out to ensure that the 70th anniversary project of a charity tourist attraction, Wimborne Model Town, is ready for the start of the new season.
And while painter Becky Stares is helping to finish the 1/100th scale buildings with her cat Beansprout keeping a watchful eye on proceedings.
The models are designed in house with manufacture by Cobnut 3D, and despite their size, are highly detailed.
A section of the Minster chancel has just been produced taking 44 hours to print despite being just 240mm x 150mm in size.
The new model layout will be positioned behind the Corn Market at the edge of the Model Town’s existing 1/10th scale buildings.
This represents the original location of the miniature world in the real town, when it opened for the first time to summer visitors in 1952.
It will include a small area which will in fact be a model of itself – an even tinier collection of Wimborne town centre buildings in 1000th scale.
“A model of the model town has been a consistently requested addition to our facilities and was an obvious choice for a special project to mark our 70th anniversary,” says manager Nick Clark.
The model town will reopen on April 2.
