THE popular slides at Littledown have been out of action for two years - and no date has been given for when they'll reopen.
The yellow and green flumes closed with the leisure centre at the start of the first lockdown, but haven't reopened, BCP Council have confirmed.
BH Live, who operate the centre, said corrosion was identified and commissioned a report on the issues, but did not reveal when the issue was identified or when the slides are likely to reopen.
A spokesperson for BH Live said: “I can confirm that they are temporarily closed at this time.
“An initial report on the flumes at Littledown Centre was commissioned by BH Live following corrosion being identified. The report advised that further inspection works were required.
“BCP Council provided contacts and quotes from two companies that could assist with further inspection.
“Thanks to the combined efforts of the Council and BH Live’s team, the extent of the repairs will soon be fully detailed, enabling essential works and the subsequent re-open to take place as soon as possible.”
Ward councillor for Littledown, Lawrence Williams, said it was “unfortunate” and said BH Live were still recovering from the pandemic.
He said: “It’s very unfortunate but BH Live are still recovering from the pandemic, and I guess it’s not a priority.
“However, it is very disappointing that we are losing that amenity.
“I will put a bit of pressure on BH Live, they are a private business, and it can be difficult to put demands in.
“I am confident they’ll fix it as soon as they are able to. I will bring it up with the chief executive.”
BH Live were asked when the problem was identified and when it is likely to be fixed but failed to provide an answer.
BCP Council portfolio holder for active health, Mohan Iyengar, was also contacted but did not provide a response.
The pool, spa and changing rooms at Littledown underwent a large maintenance project in 2018.
The maintenance and improvements programme included essential repairs, tiling and steelwork replacement in the pool area.
Swimming pool changing rooms also received “long-overdue” enhancements.
