“YEARS” of frustrations on a road which “causes houses to shake” seem to finally be coming to an end.
Stanpit in Christchurch is currently plagued by potholes and loose stones, but in a “win for ward councillors”, it is finally being resurfaced.
Cllr Lesley Dedman said: “For once it is a success story for the ward councillors who have finally got BCP Council to get the road resurfaced.
“The whole road has been taken up, the bottom layer has been resurfaced – it’s got its marzipan on, then we will top it.
“Instead of having the road closed they have allowed people to drive along it to help it settle more.
“People have been saying there’s chips flying everywhere, personally I have not driven down it because I know there’s chips flying everywhere.
“As far as I’m concerned it is a success story for ward councillors because previously we had only managed to get them to fill the pot holes. My only caveat is it has taken this long.”
Cllr Dedman said she has been reassuring residents it will be turned into a “proper road”.
She added: “If anything has failed it is the communication. As far as I understand it was on the county council’s list to do.
“We started sending BCP Council emails all the time, it’s been a problem since the inception of BCP Council, that would be my only grumble.
“The other thing people never understand, where I live is called Mudeford, it’s got mud, Stanpit has gravel, people live in an area they don’t understand.”
One Stanpit resident said her house actually shook when cars drive part as a result of the condition of the road.
She said: “It has only been like this for a couple of weeks, before that it was absolutely horrendous, for years.
“Our house actually shakes because it’s so bad. It’s really bad for cyclists, it’s quite dangerous actually.
“We must have spoken to at least three different generations of councillors.”
Another resident said: “It should have been resurfaced about ten years ago. It feels like it’s been swept under the carpet because down there where you get to Mudeford, it’s been resurfaced.
“We want a nice smooth road, and maybe a weight limit.
“It’s very dangerous on bikes as well, through the chicane you have to go through the middle because of the potholes.”
A BCP Council spokesperson said: “The work at Stanpit has involved the old road surface being planed off and recycled using a process generally known as ‘retread’.
“A temporary road surface was put down on Sunday, February 20. The next stage will start on Monday, March 14 over a period of five days and the road will be closed 8am and 6pm during that period.”
