RESIDENTS have been warned to expect roadworks and disruption until the end of the year as electricity supplies are boosted.
Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) has started a £2.49million programme of works to boost the resilience of the power supply between Victoria Park and East Howe in Bournemouth.
Works started earlier this month and will run until December, between this time there will be nine road closures across the area.
The programme of works will see SSEN replace the underground cable running between the two substations located at East Howe and Victoria Park.
Some sections of the upgrade will require temporary traffic management systems which will be planned by SSEN in association with Highways England and local authorities, with any customers in the vicinity being notified in advance.
Completed in nine phases, each with one road closure, the works will introduce 2.2 kilometres of modern and efficient cabling while connections at the associated substations will also be upgraded.
The first phase of works has started at East Howe Substation and will continue until March 18, works will progress to Moorside Road on March 15 and last for just under two weeks - until March 27.
Works will then take place on Marks Road between March 24 and April 13 before moving to Caroline Road (April 10 to April 21) and Kinson Road Crossing (April 18 to April 25).
Kingswell Road will face seven weeks of disruption between April 22, and June 12 followed by Hendford Road (June 9 to June 24).
Summer works will progress along Columbia Road (July 25 to August 13), Beswick Avenue (July 25 to August 7), Kinsbourne Avenue (June 21 to July 4), Boundary Road (August 10 to September 12) and Victoria Park Sports Ground (July 1 to July 12).
Roads set to face closure includes; Kinsbourne Avenue, Beswick Avenue, Hendford Road, three sections of Kingswell Road, Caroline Road, St Marks Road and Moorside Road.
Details of these traffic systems will also be available on SSEN’s Victoria Park to East Howe project page.
SSEN’s project manager, Peter Davies said: “My team and I are delighted to be working on this project, which will provide a robust network for those who live and work here; suiting their needs now and in the future as they look to adopt low carbon technologies, such as electric vehicles.
“This programme of works over a nine month period delivers a substantial boost to the network and SSEN will work to ensure the impact of this upgrade on local homes and businesses will be as minimal as possible.
“Throughout these works, SSEN will look to update customers in the immediate vicinity of the works, and I would like to assure them that we will be carrying out the upgrade with no disruption to the power supply of our customers.”
