THE headteacher of Queen Elizabeth’s school said it was “disappointing” Dorset Council had withdrawn its support of the leisure centre.
The council agreed to withdraw its support of QE Leisure Centre in Wimborne at full council, stating it was not financially viable.
It means the school will need to find an alternative solution or risk losing £300,000 in funding if it was to lose the leisure centre.
Katie Boyes, QE headteacher, said: “The school is very disappointed that Dorset Council has taken the decision to withdraw from QELC.
“As a school we remain committed to trying to support community use and will now look to consider possible options with all stakeholders.”
Dorset Council manages the leisure centre despite not owning it. This raised the question as to whether it provided value for money.
It costs them half a million pounds a year to manage and subsidise the site, far higher than any of the eight leisure centres it owns who share what’s left of the £1.7m budget.
