Forecasters have warned 'disruptive' strong winds are expected, and that gusts are 'likely to widely reach 45 to 50 mph inland', and as 'high as 60mph around coastlines across southwest England'.
The strong winds will by accompanied by some heavy rain at times and should gradually ease through Saturday evening.
What to expect:
Some delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport are likely;
Probably some bus and train services affected, with some journeys taking longer;
Delays for high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and bridges likely and damage to trees possible;
Some short term loss of power and other services is possible;
It’s likely that some coastal routes, sea fronts and coastal communities will be affected by spray and/or large waves.
Further details:
A spell of wet and windy weather with coastal gales and heavy rain will develop during Saturday afternoon. Gusts in coastal areas are likely to reach 50-55 mph and perhaps as high as 60 mph in the most exposed parts of Cornwall and southwest Wales. Inland, gusts will tend to peak at 45-50 mph away from hills and mountains. Wind will then ease a little during the evening.
